There are many excellent medical assistant schools and colleges offering programs in medical assistanting. Sanford Brown Institute and Miller Motte Technical College have campuses in many states. And, Everest College offers colleges throughout the U.S. and Canada. With the busy work schedules online Medical Assistant schools are becoming more popular; add the rising cost of gas going back and forth between home and school, and online college becomes quite appealing. Kaplan University offers online courses in Medical Assisting and Allied Health Institute also offers online courses.

One point to remember when considering any college that offers a Medical Assistant program is to make sure it is accredited. This is very important because it is a requirement if you take the test for certification. Certification is not required, but it is recommended by the American Association of Medical Assistants and makes finding a job easier. Being certified makes the statement that you are knowledgeable in your field and gives you the legal right to be called a Certified Medical Assistant.

A Medical Assistant can go one step further by becoming a Registered Medical Assistant which involves being certified by the American Medical Technologists. Being a member of this organization allows the Medical Assistant to take advantage of their benefits which include continuing education and career assistance.
Medical Assisting is one of the fastest growing professions; the career outlook for this occupation is very good. Because of new technology and the growth in numbers of clinics and health care facilities, Medical Assistants are more in demand than ever. Yearly salaries range from $22,000 to $27,000, which has increased some since 2006. Medical Assistants are used in doctors’ offices, medical clinics, and hospitals to assist with clinical functions such as taking vital signs, and with administrative duties such as greeting customers and keeping medical records. To become a Medical Assistant, you must attend either a four-year college, junior college, or a vocational school. Classes taken pertaining to the clinical side of the profession include anatomy and physiology. Administrative classes include recordkeeping and typing. The program can be completed in one to two years.
